When I was at school I took G.C.S.E Art, whatever that meant! At the time I loved to create things, draw, sew etc, but I never felt happy with the restrictions of the tick-all-the-boxes attitudes of the 'ART' teachers. There was no autonomy on my part, and when I did show individuality, I was told that my work was immature( have you seen whats in the TATE modern?) Clearly they, were missing the point.
I went on to study ART at a-level, but came away with no useful skills, and once more thoroughly uninspired. It was a dreadful course, and there was always that star pupil who got praise for pasteling a giant sized pear, or other dreary edibles. The fact is, I fell out off love with creating, making, and my art in all it's forms ceased.
However, during last year my love affair was ignited once again, but with much more passion than before. My main source of inspiration comes from fellow bloggers, who's deeply wonderful art works drive me to seek where my own skills lie.
Last month I taught myself to crochet, and I've just completed my first project. My daughter loves her 'blankie' and takes it to bed with her each night. I love the love that has been poured into this, and the time. I feel so nourished by making something- hand-made is the best.
